Mark Broughton is an attorney member of the State Bar of California Board of Trustees, appointed by the California Supreme Court in 2016. He was reappointed for a second four-year term in 2019.
Mr. Broughton is certified by the State Bar as a criminal law specialist. He has represented clients in more than 200 jury trials in both federal and state courts. These trials have covered a range of topics, including special circumstance murders, drug conspiracies, gang violence, sexual assault, infant death, and DUI homicides.
Mr. Broughton is an active member of the Fresno County Bar Association. He has also worked with the Northern California Innocence Project and has been a mock trial attorney judge and team coach. Mr. Broughton taught continuing legal education classes at the local law school and served as judge pro tempore and on the special circumstances/death penalty panel for the Fresno County Superior Court.
Mr. Broughton is a Trustee member of the Review Committee of the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation. His service to the State Bar has included serving as the Board liaison to the California Judges Association and on the State Bar’s former entity, the California Commission on Access to Justice, now the independent California Access to Justice Commission.
Mr. Broughton received his law degree from Western State University, San Diego, and his undergraduate degree from UC San Diego.
