The Law School Council meets at least three times per year to consider matters related to the content and format of the bar examination, coordinating curricula related to bar tested subjects, and aspects of law school education relevant to licensure.

The Council consists of 14 people, ten members are law school deans who are elected by their category of school and appointed by the Board of Trustees, three members are from the State Bar Committee of Bar Examiners who have been appointed by the CBE Chair and one member is from the Board of Trustees.
Person selected from the law schools are deans. The term of office for each school member of the Council is three years. The distribution of law school deans among the categories of law schools is approximately proportional to student enrollment and representation in first-time applicants for the California Bar Examination.
