The advisory commissions advise and assist the California Board of Legal Specialization (CBLS) in the administration of the certification programs for each of the following specialties:

Membership: Each advisory commission consists of eight lawyer members, at least seven of whom must be certified specialists in that commission's area of law, and one non-lawyer public member. Each commission meets six times a year and some commission work takes place outside of the meetings. Members serve four-year terms.
