Fiscal Services Specialist (Payroll)

Department: Finance
Description: The Fiscal Services Specialist  (FSS) is responsible for performing a variety of finance and payroll functions and transactions including but not limited to preparing, processing, analyzing, interpreting, reconciling, maintaining, and verifying the correctness of a variety of finance and payroll data, records and reports related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, member billing, collection, payroll, and financial reporting activities. The FSS also responds to inquiries from State Bar members, employees and outside agencies, including vendors and tax authorities.  FSS also provides support for other accounting and administrative functions within the Office of Finance.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and Minimum two (2) years post-secondary education and Minimum two (2) years relevant experience in general ledger, in-house payroll process, billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable and customer service, or Minimum three (3) years directly relevant experience in in-house payroll and general accounting including equivalent work experience in a position which requires performance of tasks similar to the major duties and responsibilities of the position and accomplished computer skills with basic knowledge or J.D. Edwards/Oracle System and Microsoft Office; i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.  Successful completion of the State Bar validated standard tests for the position.

Legal Secretary

Department: General Counsel
Description: The Office of General Counsel employs the in-house attorneys to the State Bar.  The legal work includes advice to and representation of the State Bar Board of Trustees, committees, commissions, and staff in administrative and civil litigation and transactional work in substantive areas such as: Bar discipline and admission cases at the California Supreme Court, labor and employment, copyright, real estate, contracts, regulatory work, and general corporate matters. The Legal Secretary will be required to follow state and federal court rules and filing procedure (including e-filing) in preparing and filing court documents, track litigation and other deadlines, prepare subpoenas, open, maintain and close files and records, including summaries of cases, generate Tables and Authorities and Contents, perform other related duties as assigned, and maintain confidentiality.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and Minimum two (2) years post-secondary education and Minimum two (2) years directly relevant legal secretarial experience or two (2) years secretarial experience, at least one year of which has been in a legal environment or Minimum four (4) years directly relevant legal secretarial experience including equivalent work experience in a position which requires performance of tasks similar to the major duties and responsibilities of the position and Accomplished computer keyboarding skills and Successful completion of the State Bar validated standard tests for the position.
