The 2008 Annual Meeting promises to be our best annual
conference yet. California Supreme Court
Associate Justice Ming Chin, Professor Erwin Chemerinsky and
Professor William Gould will be our
keynote speakers.
Other speakers will include California Court of Appeal Justice Judith Haller,
DFEH Director Phyllis Cheng, Impact Fund Executive Director Brad
Seligman, Tony Oncidi, Wil Harris, Patricia Gillette and
many others.
In less than two
hours, we will give you an update on the most important California
labor and employment law cases decided this year. We will also
present a 75 minute breakout panel that will review this
year’s developments in California public sector labor and
employment law.
Other panel topics will include age discrimination, workplace
privacy, suing individual defendants after Jones v. Torrey Pines, arbitration, sexual
harassment, family responsibility discrimination, settling at
mediation, the future of unions, electronic discovery, disability
discrimination and much more.
You will leave the Annual Meeting with practical information you
can take back to your office and use right away. There will also be
many opportunities at our Annual Meeting to mingle and socialize
with practitioners from all sides and from all parts of the state.

NEW THIS YEAR! CALIFORNIA SOLO AND SMALL FIRM
SUMMIT
The State Bar of California will present the inaugural California Solo and Small Firm Summit
on January 15-16, 2009 at the
Claremont Resort and Spa in Berkeley, California. Held in
conjunction with the State Bar 2009 Section Education Institute
(SEI), CSS education will continue throughout the weekend as a new
CSS Track at the SEI.
The California Solo and Small Firm Summit provides strategic
solutions for the practice of law and the management of a practice.
Designed for legal professionals who work in a solo or small firm
practice, the Summit will feature power networking events,
mentoring circles, legal education classes, business management
courses, and showcase products and services unique to the solo or
small firm practitioner. Its overall objective is to offer
strategies and tools that promote a thriving law practice.
The California Solo and Small Firm Summit opens at noon on Thursday, January 15 with a plenary
luncheon program. CSS education sessions are presented through
Friday noon, followed by a networking luncheon/wrap-up.

Grant
Program: The
California State Bar Labor & Employment Law Section is
committed to inclusion of persons with diverse backgrounds in its
programs and mission. In that spirit, it has established a grant
program to provide educational and networking opportunities to
promote persons of diverse backgrounds in the area of labor and
employment law.
