Letter From the Chair-Elect
Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to our Welcome New Members annual issue of BIG
NEWS. Approximately 2,500 new admitters have recently joined our
Section. We are thrilled to have all of them and hope to serve them
well.
The Executive Committee has been working hard to suss out the
best way to support and guide these new admittees. The New
Admittees Committee, under the inspired leadership of Chair-Elect
Marilyn Monahan, has crafted several welcome projects for our new
members.
These events include working with local bars throughout the
state to sponsor networking/
mentoring mixers. Plans are set for Southern California and
Northern California. The
second wave of events will target Santa Maria and Fresno. Watch
your local bar newsletters
for more information. We hope to see you there. Contact mamonahan@earthlink.net.
The Section is plowing ahead with further plans for the State
Bar Annual Meeting in San
Diego in September ‘09. In addition to a roster of
forward-looking programs presented by
knowledgeable practitioners, the Section is planning some
“downtime” activities as well.
On Friday night, September 11, 2009 at 7:00 pm, the Section is
hosting a cocktail
reception for all parties interested in the issues facing solo and
small firm practitioners. The
reception will include drinks and hors de’ oeuvres and
awards ceremonies for outstanding
service to the smaller firm practice community. The Section will
be presenting a “Meet the
Mentors” table at the event, which includes a number of
experienced practitioners who are
listed in the Section’s Lawyer-to-Lawyer directory. These
generous souls make themselves
available to advise newer practitioners on all practice topics.
Contact gr8calilawyer@hotmail.
com.
And the Section publications would like to hear from all of you
as well. The publications
seek to create a state-wide small firm practice community as well
as deliver useful articles and free MCLE to help practitioners work
more effectively and efficiently. BIG
NEWS for Smaller Firms focuses on items of general interest
to smaller firm practitioners throughout the state. Its supplement,
Trial Style, focuses on all
aspects of the dispute resolution experience.
Both publications welcome submissions on any related area from
all sources. Please donot be shy - let us know what you are up to,
what your needs are, and what you prefer. We are dedicated to
accommodating the legal community throughout the state. Contact Editor@
LMillerconsulting.com for information. Hope to see you in San
Diego!
