Notice: Effective May 26, 2025, State Bar e-learning courses will transition from free to paid access following our Learning Management System upgrade. Course pricing is outlined in the Rules of the State Bar of California, Appendix A, Title 5, Division 7, Chapter 3 (Education Fees).

Your course access:

  • Courses marked “In Progress” before May 22, 2025: Complete these at no cost
  • Courses marked registered but “Not started” before May 22, 2025: Will require re-enrollment and payment
  • Previously completed courses: No change—your records remain intact

New Attorney Training participants:

  • Current enrollees: Complete all courses at no cost
  • New enrollees (after May 26): Will require a $55 fee for all nine courses

The State Bar’s E-learning Portal offers online education and training on a variety of topics to support your knowledge and understanding of your professional responsibilities and ethical obligations to facilitate the competent practice of law.

E-learning courses can be completed on your own time and at your own pace. If you leave the course at any time, your progress will be saved until you return. Once you complete the course, you can save and print your MCLE certificate to document the course completion for purposes of your MCLE requirement. You can also save and print the course resource materials. Note that the MCLE certificate and resource materials will only be available for 30 days after you finish a course.

To access the E-learning Portal, log in to My State Bar Profile. There you will find a link to the E-learning Portal that will take you to your personalized course dashboard.

E-learning courses

New Course: Practical Trust Account Reconciliation Course

In this hands-on course, you will learn about the essential trust accounting records that are mandatory for each client trust account. The course will also show you how to perform the necessary monthly three-way reconciliation process.

You will earn 1 hour of general and 1 hour of ethics MCLE credit.


Fundamentals of Client Trust Accounting

This e-learning course is available to all licensees and covers the rules and statutes governing client trust accounting duties; how to properly receive, maintain, and account for client or third-party funds; and a step-by-step system for accounting clients’ money.

You will earn 1 hour of participatory MCLE credit in ethics.


Disrupting Implicit Bias

This e-learning course, available to all licensees, has been developed to facilitate compliance with changes to the Rules of the State Bar that became operative on January 1, 2022. This course meets the requirements of State Bar Rule 2.72, subsections (A)(1)(b) and (B)(2)(a)(ii)(1). It provides an overview of different types of bias, with a specific focus on implicit bias and the promotion of bias-reducing strategies to address how unintended biases regarding race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and/or other characteristics undermine confidence in the legal system and impact the legal profession.

You will earn 1 hour of participatory MCLE credit in elimination of bias for the bias-reducing strategies subtopic.


2025 Ethics Symposium Self-Study Courses

Did you miss the 2025 Ethics Symposium or want to revisit its sessions? The State Bar of California now offers self-study MCLE courses from the Symposium. The 2025 Symposium, presented by the Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct (COPRAC) featured panels on recent legal ethics developments, ethical considerations of artificial intelligence, emerging outside counsel guideline issues, and protecting the bench amid escalating threats.

There are three self-study courses from the 2025 Ethics Symposium. You will earn 1.25 hours of participatory MCLE credits in ethics for each course.
