The Pro Bono Practice Program offers attorneys the opportunity to contribute their legal expertise to Californians in need.
Participants who qualify can have their State Bar annual fees waived and also get free and reduced rates to attend Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE).
What is the Pro Bono Practice (PBP) Program?
Formerly known as the Emeritus Attorney Pro Bono Participation Program, the Pro Bono Practice Program allows a California attorney who is retired from an active practice, or on leave, to do pro bono work with a qualified legal services provider, certified lawyer referral service or court-based self-help center.
In return for his or her pro bono service, the State Bar waives the annual fee attorneys usually pay to practice law in the state. The aim is to engage attorneys who are on temporary or permanent leave from the active practice of law, but who are still interested in doing pro bono legal work.
