Legal Specialist Exam Results

Results for the October 2025 Legal Specialist Examination will be posted electronically the week of March 23, 2026. An email notification from the State Bar’s Legal Specialization Unit will be sent once the results are available and will include instructions for accessing results through the Applicant Portal.

Successful applicants will be eligible to file their Post-Examination Application for Initial Certification by April 30, 2027. An applicant may request an extension of up to 18 months for completion of all initial certification requirements. Requests are granted for good cause shown. Applicants are required to meet all other certification requirements as described in Title 3, Division 2, Chapter 2 of the Rules of the State Bar of California (Legal Specialization Rules).

Unsuccessful applicants are encouraged to register for the next Legal Specialist Examination scheduled for October 2027. Registration will open in August 2027; before that date, you may submit a notification request by filling out the Licensee Records and Compliance Inquiry Form.
