What we do

The State Bar is an administrative arm of the California Supreme Court and the nation’s largest attorney regulatory agency. We are 600 employees, headquartered in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Our mission is to protect the public and includes the primary functions of licensing, regulation and discipline of attorneys; the advancement of the ethical and competent practice of law; and support of efforts for greater access to, and inclusion in, the legal system. Our pursuit of this mission is guided by five values: clarity, investing in our people, excellence, respect, and a growth mindset.
