Discipline Statistics

Public protection is the State Bar’s highest priority. In fiscal year 2025*, the State Bar:

• Opened over 21,000 cases against California attorneys and nonattorneys holding themselves out fraudulently as licensees.
• Filed notices of disciplinary charges in the State Bar Court against 101 attorneys.
• Recommended disbarment for 69 attorneys and suspension for another 69.
• Opened more than 1,200 cases of unauthorized practice of law (UPL) by nonattorneys.
• Reimbursed $6.2 million to 355 victims of attorney misconduct.

*While California law requires the State Bar to report discipline statistics to the Legislature on a fiscal year basis (see the Annual Discipline Report for more), the State Bar also reports calendar year statistics in the interactive map below for the public’s benefit.
