Results for the October 2023 Legal Specialist Examination were posted electronically on March 13, 2024, to the Applicant Portal. The overall pass rate for the 2023 Legal Specialist Examination across all exams was 74.8%.
Successful applicants were eligible to file their Post-Examination Application for Initial Certification by April 24, 2025. An applicant may request an extension of up to eighteen months for completion of all initial certification requirements. Requests are granted for good cause shown.
Unsuccessful applicants are encouraged to register for the next Legal Specialist Examination scheduled for Thursday, October 30, 2025. Registration will open on August 1, 2025; before that date you may submit a notification request by filling out the Licensee Records and Compliance Inquiry Form.
Results for the October 2025 Legal Specialist Examination will be posted electronically on March 13, 2026.
Successful applicants are required to file their Post-Examination Application for Initial Certification by April 30, 2027, unless granted an extension for good cause shown. Applicants are required to meet all other certification requirements as described in Title 3, Division 2, Chapter 2 of the Rules of the State Bar of California (Legal Specialization Rules).
