State Bar Opens New Round of DEI Leadership Seal Program Applications

The State Bar of California is inviting a new round of legal employers across the state to apply for its DEI Leadership Seal—a distinction recognizing organizations that commit to and implement research-driven actions that further workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession. Applications are due March 27, 2026.

The State Bar's 2024 Diversity Report Card finds that while California's legal profession continues to become more representative of the state's population―with women and people of color both representing 57 percent of newly admitted attorneys, an all-time high for representation of both groups―the attorney workforce still does not reflect the state's rich diversity.

State Bar of California Earns Gold DEI Leadership Seal Status

The State Bar of California announced today that it has earned Gold level status in its DEI Leadership Seal Program, and the law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP has earned Bronze. The two join 34 other California legal organizations that earned a DEI Leadership seal in 2023, when the State Bar launched the initiative to recognize legal employers who implement research-driven actions that further workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion. 

State Bar of California Announces 34 First Recipients of DEI Leadership Seal

The State Bar of California announced today that 34 legal employers are receiving the first DEI Leadership Seals in the Gold, Silver, and Bronze tiers. The DEI Leadership Seal Program recognizes legal employers who implement research-driven actions that further workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion. The State Bar launched the program in January 2023 in support of its strategic plan goal of enhancing access to and inclusion in the legal system.
