State Bar Submits Petition to California Supreme Court with Recommendations Regarding the Court’s May 28 Title 9 Rule Amendment Proposal

On May 28, 2025, the Supreme Court recommended changes to Title 9 of the California Rules of Court and directed the State Bar to circulate the proposal for public comment and to submit any proposed changes to the Court. Following 45 days of public comment, the Board of Trustees and Committee of Bar Examiners met jointly in August and approved recommended changes to the Court’s rule proposals. The changes relate largely to Admissions oversight and the administration of the California Bar Exam, as well as more limited changes to provisions relating to attorney discipline and regulation. On September 4, 2025, the State Bar’s Office of General Counsel submitted a petition to the California Supreme Court outlining the State Bar’s proposed changes to the Court’s rule proposals.
