Board of Trustees authorizes fee increase request

The State Bar Board of Trustees today formally authorized a much-needed increase in licensing fees in 2020, the first in over 20 years. The Board set the fee increase as the agency’s number one legislative priority, essential to the agency’s fiscal health and ongoing reform. 

State Bar Study Expanded to July 2019 Bar Exam Applicants

The California Bar Exam Strategies and Stories Program, designed to help applicants navigate the challenges they face when preparing for the bar exam, will be offered again to applicants studying for the July 2019 exam. Online registration for the study program begins March 1.

Am I automatically a member of the bar if I passed the exam?

No. You will not be considered eligible for State Bar membership unless you have met all the admission requirements. Log into your account and check your admission status to determine whether you have met all requirements and are eligible to take the attorney’s oath. If you have not met all requirements, check to see what still needs to be done.

I didn’t pass the bar exam. How do I sign up for the next one?

The California Bar Exam is scheduled two times a year in February and July. The application as an immediate repeater is available online after the results are posted, usually in mid-May and mid-November. You can register for the next exam on the State Bar website. After the deadline, you will have to pay a late fee.
