Do I send in the original certificates or the copies?

Photocopies are sufficient for the purposes of the audit. Hold on to your originals through the end of the year you report MCLE compliance.

I can’t view my Admittance Ticket. What do I do?

Make sure you complete all demographic information located in your Admissions Applicant Portal. To locate this section, go to My Profile at the top right corner and click on the Update the contact information link. Select the Edit button and scroll down to Demographic section.

If you have a pending request for testing accommodations, your Admittance Ticket will not be released until your testing accommodation case is concluded. If you launch or draft a testing accommodation case after a decision is sent to you, you will no longer have access to your Admittance Ticket. If you launched the testing accommodation in error or would no longer like to proceed with the submission, please contact testing.accommodations@calbar.ca.gov to have your application updated and your Admittance Ticket released.

How are the exam questions provided?

Applicants will receive hard copy examination materials for the written and MBE sessions through the February 2028 exam. When registering for the exam, applicants will choose to either use their personal laptop to type their answers or handwrite their answers. The multiple-choice session is comprised of 200 questions where applicants must record their answers by darkening circles using a Number 2 pencil on an answer sheet.

What if I completed more than 25 credit hours? Should I submit them all?

Please submit the required amount of hours based on your status during the compliance period.  Excess hours may not be applied to the next compliance period.

What items am I allowed to bring into the exam room?

Items listed in the Admittance Ticket Bulletin are allowed without prior approval. The Admittance Ticket Bulletin can be found on the California Bar Exam webpage once logistics for the exam are confirmed. Items not listed in the bulletin will require approval through the testing accommodations process. If the bulletin is not yet available for the exam you intend to take, refer to the bulletin for the prior administration of the exam; however, please note that the bulletin is subject to change.

If I can’t find all of my certificates, can I submit my receipts instead?

No. Please do not submit your receipts. A receipt is not considered sufficient proof of course completion. If you cannot find your certificates, contact the provider, send them your receipts, and ask for their assistance in helping provide proof of course completion.

Providers are required to maintain proof of attendance for four years. Contact your provider to obtain your certificates of attendance and exhaust all possible avenues to find your attendance records before completing additional courses. Submitting out of period coursework may result in your audit file being referred to the Office of Chief Trial Counsel for further investigation and/or disciplinary prosecution.

I just found more certificates. Can I add them to my audit submission?

If you receive a notice of deficiency and are able to locate more certificates for courses taken within the compliance period, please submit them as an attachment to the Licensee Records and Compliance Inquiry form. Please remember to include the MCLE Audit Submission Cover Sheet and a letter of explanation whenever responding to a Notice of Deficiency.

Why does my Admittance Ticket say 2-day exam when I’ve been approved for extended days?

For all applicants, the Admittance Ticket will reflect whether they are approved to take the 1-day Attorneys’ Examination or the 2-day General Bar Examination. Your Admittance Ticket will not reflect extended testing days. Applicants should refer to their Testing Accommodations Notice, which will be provided to applicants with approved testing accommodations once logistics are confirmed for the exam.

I don’t have a certificate but I do have a copy of the sign in sheet from the provider. Will you accept that as proof of completion?

We will only accept a sign-in sheet if it includes the name of the course, course provider, date of activity and the number of MCLE hours afforded to attendees.

I’ve been granted extra time. Where can I find the schedule?

Sample schedules for extended time are posted online. Detailed testing schedules for each administration of the CBX will be sent to applicants via a Testing Accommodations Notice once logistics are finalized. Please note that schedules for subsequent exam administrations are subject to change.
